Ulster Country Board of REALTORS® hosted and presented their Fair Housing Symposium Thursday, April 28th from 12 pm to 2 pm. The symposium was hosted at the YMCA in Kingston. There were guest speakers who attended, such as Robbie Pittleman from Prime Lending, The Value of FHA/VA Lending, and Eva Tenuto from the TMI Project.
The focal point of the symposium was on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs to teach members about following the fair housing laws from both federal and state governments. Ulster County Board of REALTORS® members are required to protect their clients from any form of discrimination that will prevent them from having a fair ability to acquire a home. The REALTOR® members must adhere to the Fair Housing Act of 1968 which made it illegal to discriminate against race, sex/gender, sexual orientation, religion, creed, etc.
The Ulster County Board of REALTORS® symposium focused on how members can pinpoint instances of their clients being discriminated against and how they can report any discrimination accusations to New York State as well as how they can help protect their clients from any form of discrimination.
The Ulster County Board of REALTORS® members enjoyed hearing moving testimonies from a variety of presenters who had experienced different forms of discrimination in the real estate and housing industry from race to physical disabilities. These personal stories helped members to understand the impact of these discrimination acts on these groups and individuals so members are better able to recognize these horrendous acts.
Thank you to all of those who attended to learn more about fair housing and its importance!
