The Town of Marbletown, NY, is known for its four nationally registered historic districts, nestled amidst the Catskill and Shawangunk Mountains, as well as the farm stands and nature trails, galleries and boutiques, and restaurants and art venues that make its Hamlets of Stone Ridge and High Falls popular destinations for New York City transplants and weekenders.

Located in central Ulster County, Marbletown was first settled on or around 1669; within three years, it is said, there were 53 houses in the village, most of them log cabins. In 1703, the Town received its patent. After the burning of Kingston in 1777, the courts were moved, for a period, to Marbletown, and judicial proceedings were held in the house of Johannis Tack, then a public tavern.

The Marbletown Hamlet of High Falls has provided a setting — real and virtual — for the big and small screen: Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty were on location at the falls themselves to shoot part of their 1961 film Splendor in the Grass; and the season 4 episode of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series “Unidentified Flying Leonardo” was also ‘set’ in town in 1987.
