Economic Incentives
The Mid-Hudson regional office of the Empire State Development Small Business Division “works hand-in-hand with new and existing businesses” to identify and leverage a vast array of economic development programs for small business owners that New York State makes “available for building new facilities, relocating a business, expanding operations and workforce and entering new markets and international arenas.”
The Programs
The START-UP NY Program offers new and expanding businesses the opportunity to operate tax-free for 10 years on or near eligible university or college campuses in New York State. Partnering with these schools gives businesses direct access to advanced research laboratories, development resources and experts in key industries.
The Excelsior Program is designed to encourage the expansion in and location to New York of businesses in growth industries such as clean tech, broadband, information systems, renewable energy and biotechnology, by providing jobs, investment, research and real property tax credits.
The Recharge NY Program offers energy-intensive businesses allocation-based power benefits and long-term contracts of up to seven years that provide competitive, stable electric power prices.

On Fair Housing
On April 11, 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Fair Housing Act, which states that “It is the policy of the United States to provide, within constitutional limitations, for fair housing throughout the United States.”
In 2018, the Ulster County Board of REALTORS®, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and all member organizations celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passing of this historic law.
As stated on the official website, “NAR firmly believes in equal opportunity in housing. No person of this country should have the right to rent or purchase shelter of choice abridged because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Furthermore, these rights should not be limited because of existing or desired ethnic, racial, or religious proportions in any defined area.”
